Excerpts from: More women die from lung cancer
By Rolleiv Solholm The Norway Post [09/09/01]
In Norway, more women than men under the age of 50 now die from lung
cancer.
The death rate from lung cancer among Norwegian women is among the
highest in Europe.
This is shown by a survey published by the Journal for the Norwegian
Medical
Association.
The death rate from lung cancer among men peaked in the years 1991-95,
while
it is still on the increase among women.
Smoking habits among men and women have developed differently. Earlier,
far
more men than women smoked, while now, more girls smoke than boys.
Also, the report concludes, there is evidence that the risk for developing
lung
cancer from smoking is greater for women than men.
