Thailand: Bangkok Smoking Ban Begins on Nov. 8th [08/25-04]
Excerpts from: Smoking ban strict enforcement Nov 8
Bangkok Post
[08/25/03]
No-smoking laws will be strictly enforced in air-conditioned stores and restaurants,
schools, hospitals, clinics and government offices from Nov 8.
All provincial governors had been instructed to ensure the two ministerial
orders on smoking were strictly enforced, Public Health Minister Sudarat Keyuraphan
said yesterday. Violations would definitely be penalised.
Mrs Sudarat said that despite efforts to encourage people not to develop the
habit, cigarette companies continued to lure people into taking up smoking through
cunning advertisements.
They had also increased the nicotine level in cigarettes, making them more
addictive, she said.
