ASH NEWS: Many Groups Support Outdoor Smoking [02/03/06-4]

For More Information on Calabasas' Outdoor Smoking Ordinance Click Here

Although Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) was the first organization to suggest -- more than five years ago -- that smoking bans were appropriate and necessary in some outdoor areas as well as indoors, more and more mainstream organizations have now joined us in seeking such
protection for nonsmokers.

For example, many of these support the new Calabasas City cutting-edge ordinance which prohibits smoking in virtually all outdoor areas -- including streets and sidewalks, outdoor restaurant patios and lounges, loading docks, etc. -- and relegates smoking to small "smoker outposts" in places like parking lots.  Here are some of the organizations which joined ASH in supporting this new ordinance:

Los Angeles Department of Health
The American Heart Association
The American Lung Association
Healthier Solutions, Inc.
SAFE (Smoke Free Air for Everyone
Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Los Angeles
